The Freshwater Museum is housed in a beautiful wooden building at Siimtoften near the Marina in Ry.

The Freshwater Museum

The Freshwater Museum is a museum of the natural and cultural history of the fresh waters. The exhibition shows sides of the varied animal and plant life, which thrives in and near the fresh waters of The Lake District. The many lakes and streams in the area have also had a profound impact on the lives of the people, who have lived here during time.

In 2001 the Freshwater Museum acquired the earlier tourist boat M/S ‘Turisten’, which from 1922 covered the route between Ry and Himmelbjerget. The ship’s name has now been changed to ‘The Museumship Gl. Turisten’.

As from June 1 2008, the Freshwater Museum has merged with Skanderborg Museum. Skanderborg Museum has these branches: The Freshwater Museum, the Museum of Occupation in Skanderborg, the Museum at Gl. Rye Mill, the Museum of Øm Abbey, and the main branch at Adelgade 5, Skanderborg.
