About the Freshwater Museum
The Freshwater Museum opened its first exhibition building in Ry in 1986. The idea was to create a special-purpose museum for the natural history and cultural history of the fresh waters.

As from June 1 2008, the Freshwater Museum has merged with Skanderborg Museum, a museum for the cultural history of Skanderborg Kommune.

Skanderborg
Museum has these branches: The Freshwater Museum, The Museum of the Occupation in Skanderborg, The Museum at Gl. Rye Mill, The Museum of Øm Abbey, and the main branch at Adelgade 5, Skanderborg.

The Freshwater Museum has the cultural history of the fresh waters as its special subject.

The Society of the Freshwater Museum

The Society of the Freshwater Museum was founded in 1991. The Society works to support the museum and its activities and to run the Museumship Gl. Turisten. Everyone who sympathizes with its purpose can become a member of the Society.

The Museumship Gl. Turisten

In 2001 the ship M/S Line was bought. She sailed as a ferry between Ry and Himmelbjerget from 1922 to 1977. The ship is now a sailing museumship under the name The Museumship Gl. Turisten. To maintain and to sail the museumship a Boating Fraternity has been formed.
